North Carolina Housing Coalition

Our 2016 large grant of $30,000 has been awarded to the North Carolina Housing Coalition to start an innovative land banking program for Wake County.

The grant will provide seed funding to create an affordable housing land bank for Wake County. This entity would allow local, nonprofit affordable housing providers, such as Habitat for Humanity of Wake County, DHIC, Passage Home, CASA and others, to compete for land in high opportunity areas and transit corridors to produce and preserve affordable housing.

The main objective of this project is to develop a business plan and to create the organizational and governance structure of the land banking entity with buy-in from local affordable housing providers, anchor institutions and local government.

Founded in 1988, the Coalition’s mission is to lead a movement to ensure that every North Carolinian has a home in which to live with dignity and opportunity. The organization works to accomplish its mission by focusing on the following activities: resource and referral; technical assistance and outreach; research; and advocacy.
