The 2014 large grant of $25,000 was awarded to Walnut Creek Elementary School. In the 2013-14 school year, Walnut Creek served 737 students in grades Pre-K through 5th grade in Southeast Raleigh. Walnut Creek, in partnership with students, parents, and the community, aims to ensure all students continuously achieve academic and social success.

Walnut Creek Elementary School will use these funds to support their vision for all students to complete their respective grade reading at or above the benchmark level. The grant will 1) provide professional development support for teachers to gain further expertise in teaching reading; 2) create a “leveled” book library for every grade level; and 3) provide books for every classroom that align with the district’s curriculum.

Request for Proposal Theme: Innovation in Education: Supporting our Teachers focused on projects that provided educators at any level resources and support to innovate in the classroom and improve their ability to serve students.
